Austrian Climber Sends Her Local Lorüns Crag’s Hardest Route

Austrian climber Babsi Zangerl is the star in Black Diamond’s latest video series: ‘Committed.’

Blundenz, Austria, local Babsi Zangerl, 33, has been climbing bigwall, trad, and sport routes for over a decade. She’s made five free climb ascents of El Cap, and she’s climbed numerous 5.14s across Switzerland and Italy.

In this Black Diamond film, we get a taste — and look — of Zangerl tackling a route closer to home.

Austria’s Lorüns is a sport climbing crag that’s home to decades’ old historical routes. But, it’s got new routes as well.

Case in point: The Austrian climber’s partner Jacopo Larcher recently finished up a 30-year project: establishing the crag’s hardest route, Sprengstoff (graded 9a). Over the course of the past 12 months, Zangerl committed herself to make Sprengstoff’s second ascent.

The film follows her journey on this mission. Stay tuned to find out what happens.
