Smith & Wesson chose SHOT Show 2023 to unveil their new M&P 5.7 pistol. This feature-packed pistol sports a factory-threaded barrel and magazines that carry a whopping 22 rounds. I had a chance to look over the M&P 5.7 on the show floor today and here’s what I found.
[SHOT 2023] Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7
The first standout feature of the M&P 5.7 is the threaded barrel that is threaded 1/2×28 for suppressor use.
Smith & Wesson also developed new flush-fit steel magazines for the M&P 5.7 that bring the capacity up to 22 +1.
Two versions are being produced, one with thumb safety and one without (pictured above). Both come from the factory optics cut in the Sheild RMS-C pattern for red dot use.
The 5.7 uses an internal hammer-fired system rather than the striker-fired system found on the rest of the M&P family of pistols.
In addition, there’s a new Tempo rotating bolt system that’s been added. This prevents the slide from traveling rearward until the bullet has left the barrel. This creates better lockup and increases accuracy according to Smith & Wesson representatives.
The M&P 5.7 can be found on the Smith & Wesson website here. These pistols have an MSRP of $699 and are expected to ship to dealers next month. Thank you to Smith & Wesson for taking the time to walk me through this new pistol.
