The deceptively named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is continuing to try to grift money off of the work of Marineland whistleblower Phil Demurs — while refusing to acknowledge him.
Demurs, former head trainer of Marineland’s stadium show, publicly revealed his concerns about the animals at the Canadian animal park in 2012. Since then, he has been locked in legal battles with the owner as he continues his efforts to save a captive walrus named Smooshi that he developed a strong bond with during his 12 years employed there.
The owner of Marineland has accused the whistleblower of trying to steal the walrus in court.
“Mr. Demers and others agreed on or about October 7, 2012 to unlawfully gain entry into Marineland at a time known only to them, utilizing Mr. Demers’ knowledge of Marineland security as a former employee . . . in order to steal Smooshi the Walrus,” the lawsuit brought against Demurs claims.
Demurs has said that the claim is absurd and did not let it deter him from his mission to stop the neglect he witnessed there. “The notion that I’m ‘plotting’ to steal Smooshi is absurd,” Demurs previously told the Toronto Star. “I also doubt my second floor apartment would hold a walrus.”
“My hands are full enough with my cats.”
Over the last nine years, Demurs’ work has led to laws protecting captive marine life and landed himself in a prolonged and expensive legal battle.
During this time, PETA has attempted to raise money off of Demurs’ fight with Marineland — while refusing to acknowledge that he exists or assisting him in any way.
This week, a video obtained by Demurs went globally viral. The clip shows Marineland’s only orca Kiska, who has been dubbed by the Whale Sanctuary Project as “the loneliest whale in the world,” repeatedly bashing her head against the side of her tank in distress.
This video was taken on Sept 4th, 2021. Anti-captivity activists entered MarineLand and observed Kiska, their last surviving orca bashing her head against the wall. Please watch and share. This cruelty must end. #FreeKiska pic.twitter.com/sBCaKleH19

Another angle. This is dangerous and self harming behaviour. Kiska is in distress. pic.twitter.com/3MSMt9T9UI

Instead of using any portion of their $66,277,867 total revenue for 2020, or nearly $2 million in forgiven COVID relief bailout money, to assist Demurs — they released a statement about the Kiska video while going extremely out of the way to avoid mentioning him. Instead, they deliberately embedded a video from a random small Twitter account that had republished it.
Demurs believes that PETA knew that he couldn’t be “recruited” to support them, so he became “the enemy.” For years they have fundraised off his work without doing their own or crediting him for his.
“It’s a direct effort to deflect support, funding and attention away from whistleblowers sacrificing everything for these animals,” Demurs told the Gateway Pundit. “It’s an attack. Truly. F-ck them and their greed.”
In their statement about the Kiska video, the controversial organization linked to their petition that mines people’s info and asks them to donate money after they sign up.
“Please join PETA in speaking out—sign our petition to let Marineland know that you have no love for a tourist trap that continues to confine and exploit any animals,” the organization wrote in a press release, with no mention of Demurs or even GoFundMe for his legal battle.
The sinister puppy-killing organization has done similar to White Coat Waste Project, a nonprofit that is actually putting in work and making a difference in the world of animal testing. PETA has been fairly ineffective on that front for years. Still, their ghoulish vice president has no problem going on Tucker Carlson to discuss White Coat Waste Project’s efforts, without giving them proper support or credit.
PETA is in no real position to criticize others for inhumane treatment of animals as the organization has killed over 40,000 dogs and cats.
Documents uncovered by PETAKillsAnimals.com indicated that following an inspection of the PETA facilities, the Commonwealth of Virginia was so shocked by the number of animals that they kill each year that the state inspector attempted to revoke their license to operate a shelter.
Dr. Daniel Kovich, the investigator with the VDACS that conducted the inspection of PETA’s animal shelter in July, 2010 determined “the facility does not contain sufficient animal enclosures to routinely house the number of animals annually reported as taken into custody.”
“After reviewing two months worth of records, Kovich found that 245 of the 290 animals–84 percent–that PETA took into custody were killed within 24 hours. Only 17 were reported as adopted or in foster homes. Kovich noted that PETA’s shelter did not meet PETA’s own published guidelines for operating a humane animal shelter,” PETA Kills Animals reports.
Those who wish to bypass the grifters at PETA can support Demurs himself here.
