At least 730 flights were canceled on Sunday all across the United States. Delta Air Lines alone canceled at least 224 flights on Sunday. United Airlines canceled 71 flights and American Airlines canceled 66 flights.

“Delta teams continue to safely manage through compounding factors affecting our operation this weekend, including higher-than-planned unscheduled absences in some of our work groups, weather, and air traffic control constraints,” a Delta Air Lines spokesperson said. “Canceling a flight is always our last resort, and we sincerely apologize to our customers for any disruption to their travel plans.”
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was most impacted by Sunday’s cancellations.
United Airlines canceled 56 flights on Saturday and 70 flights Sunday.
United Airlines said on Thursday it would cut 12% of its daily domestic flights from its busy Newark hub. The cuts start in July and amount to about 50 daily flights.

Warnings are also already coming in that travelers can expect delays over the Fourth of July holiday. So far this summer, travel plans have been repeatedly ruined by airlines’ operational issues, according to a report by Condé Nast Traveler. A mix of factors is making traveling more inconvenient than ever. Issues like staffing shortages and bad weather lead to tens of thousands of canceled and delayed flights. Most recently over the Juneteenth holiday weekend, at least 32,000 flights were delayed and more than 5,000 were canceled from Thursday to Sunday, according to Business Insider.
This isn’t going to be an easy summer for those looking to take a vacation. Gas and diesel prices are at all-time highs, and even a slight reprieve won’t help the costs much.
