Highland Park police gave an update on the rooftop sniper attack on the northern Illinois Chicago suburb’s Fourth of July parade Monday:

  • Six people are dead and twenty-four “seriously injured” were taken to the hospital.
  • The suspect is at large.
  • The suspect is described as a white male, 18-20 years old with long black hair, small build wearing a white or blue t-shirt
  • Police also said it appears the gunman was firing from a rooftop, could not confirm he had more than one weapon but should be considered armed.

Illinois Governor Pritzker condemned gun violence after he asked for prayers for the families devastated by the mass shooting.

“But grief will not bring the victims back, and prayers alone will not put a stop to the terror or rampant gun violence in our country,” Pritzker said.

“I will stand firm with Illinoisans and Americans: we must – and we will – end this plague of gun violence.”

“Illinois has the eighth strictest gun laws in the nation, according to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.” WBEZ reported.
