Another Dirty Socialist: AOC’s ‘Tax the Rich’ Dress Design Appears to Be Stolen From Street Artist That Went Viral on TikTok

A California-based anonymous street artist has pointed out that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ dress design is strikingly similar to her art work that recently went viral on TikTok.

The artist, known as “The Velvet Bandit” pointed out the similarities in an Instagram post.

The dress was created by designer Aurora James and worn by AOC to the $30,000-per-ticket Met Gala.

In the Instagram post, The Velvet Bandit wrote “Look familiar?” and tagged the congresswoman saying that she “stepped out at the Met Gala wearing a dress designed by @aurorajames that looks hella similar to my design,” with a shocked face emoji.

The artist continued, “all of my pasteups are handpainted, and after my Tax the Rich I put up in Sausalito went viral on TikTok, I began selling stickers and shirts.”

“Low and behold, this dress bears the same likeness as my handwriting,” the artist continued.

The artist said “I admire both of these women greatly, and I would love nothing more than to collaborate with them in some way.”

She added that she is a “full time lunch lady and single mom.”

“They need a female street artist working on their team, dontcha think? It would be an honor. Obviously they have fabulous taste,” they continued.

On Tuesday morning, an ethics complaint was filed against her for it by the government watchdog American Accountability Foundation (AAF).

The AAF said that Ocasio-Cortez violated House Ethics rules by accepting “an impermissible gift” of the highly coveted tickets.

“Specifically, we believe Representative Ocasio-Cortez has violated clause 5 of Rule XXV of the Rules of the House of Representatives (commonly known as the Gift Rule) by accepting admission to the Met Gala, an event whose per seat costs is reported to range from $35,000 to $50,000, without having a permissible exemption to allow the acceptance of the lavish gift,” American Accountability Foundation President Tom Jones wrote in the complaint.

“If Representative Occasio-Cortez has used campaign funds to pay for this ticket, she has also violated FEC prohibitions on campaign funds being used for entertainment purposes,” the complaint continued.

Ocasio-Cortez also sells a $58 “Tax the Rich” hoodie in her merch shop.

A table at the Met Gala goes for $275,000.
