On Sunday, the Malden Police Department made the sad announcement that Officer Shawn Dillon had passed away unexpectedly.
Shawn J. Dillon, 33, unexpectedly died at his home on Friday, July 8th. The official cause of death has not been disclosed.
“It is with great sadness that the MPD announces the death of a member our family,” Malden Police wrote in a Twitter post.
“Officer Shawn J. Dillon assigned to our patrol division passed away unexpectedly, Friday July 8th at his home, at the age of thirty-three. Rest easy brother, we have the watch from here,” the post stated.
“Officer Dillon became a member of the MPD in April 2019, serving his department and community with pride. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of our beloved officer,” the post concluded.
The Massachusetts State Police also expressed their condolences over Dillon’s passing.
“We are very sorry for your loss. Officer Dillon’s family at home — and his Malden Police family — are in our thoughts.”
The Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association (BPPA) also shared their respect.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew, loved and worked with Officer Shawn Dillon.”
According to his obituary, the funeral mass will be Celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday morning, July 13th, at 10 a.m.
According to Fall River Reporter, at least six Massachusetts active-duty police officers have died unexpectedly since April.
