Opening Kick Returned for Touchdown in First Play For Bills After Damar Hamlin Collapse- Hamlin Cheers From Hospital Bed

After a tense week for Bills Nation and football fans across the country following the on-field collapse of Damar Hamlin, the Bills opened their game today with flourish.

On Thursday, news surfaced that Hamlin had regained consciousness after having CPR administered on-field after his collapse. Doctors reported that his neurologic function remains intact and he was communicating  with his family and care team.

By Friday, Hamlin was able to make a surprise visit to a Bills team meeting via FaceTime.  According to Coach Bill’s coach Sean McDermot, Hamlin flexed his muscles and did his signature heart symbol.

Today, Hamlin watched the game from his hospital bed.

On the opening play, the Bills’ Nyheim Hines returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown against the Patriots.

Hamlin responded on Twitter,  “OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“FREE HINES.”

“HINES FREE.”

Hamlin’sGoFundMe, to support children in need, received a flood of donations beginning Monday night.  The fund raised approximately $10,000 since its inception in 2020 prior to Monday night. To date $8.5 million has been raised.
