Mass Shooting at Michigan State University East Lansing Campus (3 Killed, 5 Wounded, Police: Suspect Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot)

A mass shooting is taking place at Michigan State University with unconfirmed reports stating more than one shooter may be involved and at least six wounded. (Note at 10:55 p.m. EST: Gunman still at large, no official report on how many killed or wounded, however police say victims taken to local hospital.) 11 p.m. update: Police presser: 5 wounded (no mention of fatalities), several life threatening; victims at two shooting locations: Berkey and Student Union. Suspect: Black male, short, red shoes, jean jacket, ball cap; surveillance video to be released soon.

12:30 a.m. EST: Police say suspect is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. No new information on victims; still three killed, five wounded.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety reported a shooting on MSU’s East Lansing campus Monday evening.

Just after 8:30 p.m. the university put out an alert: “Shots fired. … Secure-in-Place immediately. Run, Hide, Fight.”

“Run means evacuate away from danger if you can do so safely, Hide means to secure-in-place, and Fight means protect yourself if no other option,” the alert continued.

MSU Police posted a warning at 8:40 p.m. EST: “MSU ALERT: There have been shots fired near Berkey Hall on the East Lansing campus. Please secure-in-place immediately. Police are active on scene. More information to follow.”

Michigan Daily reports two killed, “#BREAKING: Campus police at Michigan State University issued a safety alert at 8:31 p.m. Monday following gunshots reported outside Berkey Hall. According to the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety, police are currently on the scene. At least two fatalities confirmed.”
