The US Senate on Wednesday held a vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the Democrats’ ‘voting rights’ legislation.
60 votes were needed to open debate — the senate voted 49 yeas to 51 nays.
Senate Republicans poured cold water on the Democrats’ bill and Joe Biden is furious.
The Democrats’ voting bill would be a federal takeover of elections and would eliminate voter ID, force 37 states to adopt automatic voter registration (which would lead to illegals being registered) and force states to allow felons to vote.
Biden lashed out at Republicans shortly before the vote in a statement:
The United States Senate needs to act to protect the sacred constitutional right to vote, which is under unrelenting assault by proponents of the Big Lie and Republican Governors, Secretaries of State, Attorneys-General, and state legislatures across the nation.
It is urgent. Democracy – the very soul of America – is at stake.
Today, Senate Democrats would like to start debate on the Freedom to Vote Act. Senate Democrats have worked hard to ensure this bill includes traditionally bipartisan provisions. But Senate Republicans are likely to block even debate on the bill, as they have before on previous voting rights bills. It’s unconscionable.
The right to vote – to vote freely, to vote fairly, and to have your vote counted – is fundamental. It should be simple and straightforward. Let there be a debate and let there be a vote.
Schumer went off on Republicans from the senate floor.
“Let there be no mistake, Senate Republicans blocking debate today is an implicit endorsement of the horrid new voter suppression and election subversion laws pushed in conservative states across the country,” Schumer said.

Kamala Harris also blasted Republicans.
“We’re not going to give up. We’re not deterred. But there’s still a lot of work to do,” Harris told reporters.
