The wife of a DC Metropolitan Police officer who has been suspended and placed under criminal investigation for trying to prevent political violence has launched a fundraiser to pay for legal representation while he attempts to clear his name.
Lieutenant Shane Lamond has been with the department for 22 years and working in intelligence for the last four years. He is now under investigation by his own department, as well as the FBI and the Department of Justice, for doing his job to keep the peace.
Lamond was suspended on Monday for allegedly coordinating with Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio to keep their group away from areas where Antifa militants were counter-protesting — aka being a good police officer.
Prior to being released from jail for burning a Black Lives Matter flag in DC, Tarrio was visited by prosecutors asking for information about Lamond. He explained to them that their relationship was professional and their contact was simply to let the Metropolitan Police know when the Proud Boys were in town and where they would be, to keep everyone safe while exercising their First Amendment rights.

Instead of celebrating that Lamond likely saved both property and lives, he is now being slandered as having ties to a “hate group.”
Speaking to the Gateway Pundit, Tarrio explained that he was simply trying to do the right thing by letting police know where they would be.
“We have got to a point where police doing police work is wrong. The only relationship I had with him has been professional — him trying to keep the peace, keep people safe and let them express their protected First Amendment rights,” Tarrio said. “There’s no conspiracy here. There were no controversial conversations.”
“Every time we go somewhere, whether it’s DC or Portland, we call local law enforcement to let them know. This is why people have called me an informant. I work with law enforcement to keep our people safe when we go somewhere,” Tarrio said. “This is going to cause people to not want to work with police, and will lead to protesters and counter-protesters fighting with each other.”
On Thursday, Lamond’s wife launched a fundraiser to provide for their three children and help cover some of the costs of legal representation.
“DC Police Officer Shane Lamond, a 22 year veteran of the DC Metropolitan Police Department, has wrongfully been placed on administrative leave pending a criminal investigation. Why, you ask? The answer is quite simple, for doing his job,” she wrote. “They are accusing him of keeping the PEACE, by keeping conflicting parties separate from one another to avoid any violence and to keep the community safe, all while allowing citizens to safely exercise their First Amendment rights.”
She continued, “Officer Lamond is a father of 3 and a husband before he is a cop. I and his children are watching a man who has dedicated the last 22 years of his life to protecting our nation’s Capital, as well as our family, and he has done so with nothing but integrity and grace. Only to watch him fight for the career and reputation he has spent the last 22 years of his life building. I am here asking for your help in any way possible. We are going to need all the prayers and help we can get. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee announced the suspension and investigation during a press conference on Wednesday, during which he admitted that they did not actually know if Lamond did anything wrong. He did not use the officer’s name, but it was leaked to the press anyway.
