If you have bear spray from SABRE, be sure to check whether or not your unit is affected by this recall.
Earlier in July, SABRE announced a recall for many of its Frontiersman bear spray units. The company noted an issue with the nozzle, indicating “some products may fail to discharge.”
Now the brand is updating its safety recall notice, with a recall for both Frontiersman and Alaska bear spray canister units. The affected Alaska canister units have the same issue as the previous recall: The can “may not spray upon depression of the discharge button,” noted SABRE.
The units included in the recall are:
Frontiersman Bear Spray canisters that have a yellow nozzle and expiration dates of 02/2024, 03/2024, 04/2024, 05/2024, or 06/2024
Alaska Backpacker Bear Spray canisters that have a yellow nozzle and expiration dates of 02/2024, 03/2024, 04/2024, 05/2024, or 06/2024
To find out if your bear spray is faulty, SABRE is asking consumers to perform a test with the canister (learn how to test here). SABRE has fixed the issue and says all Alaska and Frontiersman Bear Spray canisters moving forward will properly deploy.
For any questions or concerns regarding this recall, contact SABRE at 800-325-9568 or email the brand at [email protected].
It’s always a good idea to check your bear spray canister’s expiration date each season, and like any gear, inspect it before going out into the field.
