Other than tying our shoes, knots are much less utilized by most people in the modern age than ever before. But knots can be an extremely useful tool for hunters and outdoors folks of all pursuits.

I’ve used the three featured knots in this video for a variety of circumstances in the outdoors and at home. Wowak ties a non-slip bowline knot first, a straight lash, and a trucker’s hitch. These three work well together to tie a taut rope from tree to tree, while the lashing keeps the ends of the rope from fraying or ties broken objects back together.
This setup can help you build a shelter, create a dry line for wet clothes, highline stock like horses or llamas (with the addition of a few highline or alpine butterfly knots), and more.
And if I could add a fourth knot to this series, it would be a simple quick-release knot. This is probably the knot I use most often as both a horsewoman and an outdoorswoman, and it’s worth its weight in gold.
