None of TFB’s Photo Of The Days is the same, and the CARACAL Air Assault Vehicle above is a perfect example. During Eurosatory 2022 in Paris, under the motto “Move – Sense – Strike”, Rheinmetall showcased the new family of Caracal airborne vehicles.
This is a partnership between ACS Armoured Car Systems, Mercedes-Benz and Rheinmetall, where the end product is a mobile 4×4 family of vehicles with the focus for airborne or special operations units. It can be used as a troop carrier, a medical support vehicle or as a supply vehicle.
The engine is a six-cylinder diesel developing 249 horsepower, to give the vehicle a top speed of 140 km/h.
The base of the chassis is the well-known G-class chassis from Mercedes-Benz and due to its compact design up to two of these veicles can fit into either the H-53K King Stallion or the CH-47F Chinook transport helicopters.
Production will start in 2023.
These vehicles are also worth a look: Not your average Volvo – The Scarabée Arquus, Mercedes-Benz Gruma Hunter X-Class Truck and The Rezvani Tank -Tactical Urban Vehicle.
