HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Superb Scout or Superfluous Spout?

Welcome everyone to the 140th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, deemed the LV-themed P365 to be a fudd crap.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“When you want an EBR but you can built one “just as good”” – Matt E.

“When you were in the military so you know what an M1A is, but you definitely ate too many Crayons during deployment.” – Adam S.

“Well, I guess it’s only half the price of an MCX SPEAR, so there’s a positive…” – Rusty S.

“I love it when a plan comes together… this one didn’t” – Giorgio O.

Selling this custom scout gat is GunBroker seller boeddek22, located in Manassas VA.  Let’s see what they had to say about this one-of-a-kind Springfield.

With all the different stock options available for this rifle, it’s hard to say how we ended up here.  Granted I’ve seen buffer tube adapters on quite a few non-AR rifles, but a folding Magpul stock on an M1A is certainly a first.  Pair that with one of the weirdest looking McMillan stock/pistol grip combos I’ve ever seen, and we’re off to a very weird start.

According to the seller, this rifle tips the scales at 20lbs.  Far from light when you think of an 18″ semi-auto .308.  The description doesn’t inspire confidence either.  Apparently, the gun has been bedded (this can cause more problems if done improperly), and 20 rounds were fired to zero the rifle.  I’m guessing there was a scope mounted for this zero, but it’s since vanished.  But hey, at least you can call the guy who made the scope mount if you ever have problems with that.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not particularly fond of the M1A or M14 family of rifles, but there’s certainly a large fanbase for this platform.  So the question now becomes, what’s something like this worth?  I certainly don’t think it’s worth $3k, but as always, I leave that question up to you, the readers, to decide.
