$145M Army Pistol Ammunition Contract Awarded to Winchester

Winchester is about to ramp up production in its facilities in Oxford, Mississippi and East Alton, Illinois in preparation for its latest military contract. The United States Army has officially awarded Winchester a hefty $145M Army Pistol Ammunition contract to produce .38 caliber. 45 caliber and 9mm ammunition over a five-year contract agreement. I was unaware that the US Army was still using 38-caliber pistol ammunition but in any case, this contract is a huge win for Winchester and will keep them secured as one of the largest suppliers of small-caliber ammunition to the United States Military.

The Winchester workforce is extremely dedicated to providing high-quality ammunition for the U.S. Warfighter,” said Brett Flaugher, president of Winchester Ammunition. “We will continue to work extremely hard to provide the support required from our U.S. Military.

This latest US Army Small Arms Ammunition Contract comes on the heels of several other recently lucrative contracts like one back in January that was awarded to them by the FBI for duty, training, and frangible ammunition potentially worth over $15M, a $13M contract awarded to produce 7.62mm ammunition, as well as another back in August of 2021 again by the FBI to produce .308 Win./7.62 NATO valued at $5M.

What is also interesting is that Winchester has also taken on several new product lines for 2022 with their USA Ready ammunition featuring Defense +P 124-grain 9mm ammo, 170-grain USA Ready Defense 10mm, Winchester Silvertip 22LR, and Winchester PowerPoint 170-grain 6.8 Western. This is a lot of ammunition to produce and a lot of new product lines that have to be monitored and supplied to customers so the question still remains, will this affect the civilian market in a negative way?
