[SHOT Show 2023] RUBOX’s Ballistic System at Industry at the Range Day

RUBOX, a company from Poland, showcased their bullet trap ballistic wall system at this year’s SHOT Show Industry at the Range Day. The system uses a series of rubber boxes filled with aggregate to capture bullets from a range of calibers.

RUBOX put on a demonstration where a shooter armed with an AR in 5.56x45mm engaged a target pasted on the front of a wall of blocks at various ranges – getting right up close and personal, firing at point blank range. We were then invited to come and examine the wall. The rubber face of the wall was essentially self-sealing.

Of course, we checked the rear for any sign of projectiles passing through the wall – as you can see in the photo below, none of the rounds penetrated though.

The ballistic wall system takes less than an hour to assemble and is made up of a series of blocks, each block weighing in at around 50lbs. The individual blocks are rated to soak up around 3,000 rounds. The rapid assembly and disassembly allows for unique training configurations with the construction of varied courses of fire and even multi-room shoot houses.

RUBOX describe the system:

RUBOX walls allow you to fire in all directions, even at an angle of 15 degrees without bullets ricocheting. They allow for quick and automatic precision fire. The structure can be placed on any surface. Sample configuration (3.5 x 2.5 x 2 m): construction time 3 hours (3 people, moderate pace). The structure can be built by one person without any special tools, devices or glue. It does not require additional reinforcement, it can be used outdoors in various weather conditions.

We asked what kind of aggregate is used to fill up inside the blocks but no specifics were provided other than it was special and could be cleaned and reused. RUBOX’ representative also explained that the blocks were rated for use with everything from pistol calibres up to .65x51mm and 7.62x54mmR. Their website, however, notes that the system can withstand “up to 18,000J, equivalent to 12.7mm ammunition.” The RUBOX system is modular and scalable and can be used on indoor or outdoor ranges.
