Vortex Optics is adding a new optic to the Strike Eagle series, fitting between the low-power variable models and the 5-25×56. The new Strike Eagle 3-18×44 FFP option is specifically targeted at the DMR market.

Interestingly, this is not the first Strike Eagle 3-18×44 scope. A second focal plane model with a 30mm tube was sold for a time. However, this new version has more of the features which are now common in this type of optic. The elevation turret locks down to avoid unintentional changes. A first focal plane reticle, available in MOA or MRAD, is standard. The EBR-7C reticle has the same Christmas tree design we have all become accustomed to in recent years.
Vortex made the smart decision by covering the windage turret with a cap. Most shooters will just use the reticle (which retains correct subtension values at any magnification). Dialing wind is not a frequent occurrence on a DMR, and covering the turret eliminates any chance of accidental windage input.
The Strike Eagle 3-18×44 has a suggested retail price of $849.99, but they are already turning up at retailers with a street price of around $750.
