Prayers Answered: Damar Hamlin Finally Regains Consciousness – Asks Nurse Who Won Bills-Bengals Game

On Monday night, Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after a tackle.

Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin lay motionless as doctors worked on him. After several minutes he was then carted off the field in the Monday Night Football game in an ambulance and taken to the local Cincinnati hospital.

The Buffalo Bill issued a statement early Tuesday on the condition of 24-year-old safety Damar Hamlin who collapsed on the field after making a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins in the first quarter of the ESPN Monday night game in Cincinnati.

The game was suspended with 5:58 left in the first quarter, with the Bengals ahead 7-3, and later was postponed by the NFL.

“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”

The Bills tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that Hamlin remains in the ICU in critical condition, but is showing signs of improvement.

“Damar remains in the ICU in critical condition with signs of improvement noted yesterday and overnight. He is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him.”

On Thursday, news surfaced that Damar Hamlin had regained consciousness after being hospitalized for almost a week.

The doctor reported that Hamlin regained consciousness on Wednesday night. However, he still cannot talk. He is still attached to a breathing machine.

When Damar asked the doctor who won the Bills-Bengals game using a pen and paper, the doctor responded, “You won. You won at the game of life.”

TMZ reported:

Hamlin’s physicians, Dr. Knight and Dr. Pritts, from UC Health Medical Center in Cincinnati, virtually met with the media on Thursday and fielded questions about the health status of their famous patient.

The doctors revealed 24-year-old Hamlin was conscious Wednesday evening, and while he wasn’t able to talk (he’s still hooked up to a breathing machine), Damar, using pen, paper, and a clipboard, asked who won the Bills vs. Bengals game.

Of course, Hamlin wasn’t aware the game was postponed.

As far as his current condition, the doctors say Hamlin’s made “significant progress,” saying they believe he’s “neurologically intact.”

There was fear Damar could’ve sustained a serious brain injury from lack of oxygen.

Knight and Pritts were also asked about Hamlin’s long-term prognosis.

The doctors said it’s too early to say if he could recover enough to ever play football again, but added the goal is to get him back to his pre-Monday Night Football condition.
