Former Loudoun County Superintendent Scott Ziegler Indicted on Charges Related to his Handling of Sexual Assault Cases within School District

Former Loudoun County superintendent Scott Ziegler was indicted on charges related to his handling of the sexual assault cases within the school district.

A juvenile court judge last year found sufficient evidence that a teen boy sexually assaulted a fellow student in a Loudoun County high school bathroom in May 2021.

On May 28, 2021, a male ‘transgender’ student wore a skirt when he raped a 15-year-old girl in the girl’s bathroom at Stone Bridge High School. The school district’s policy allows male students to use the girl’s bathroom and vice versa.

According to reports, the same transgender student committed a SECOND sexual assault at another Loudoun County school after he was transferred out.

Not only did the school officials cover up the incidents to ‘prevent controversy over their transgender policy,’ but they also arrested and prosecuted the girl’s father after he tried to sound the alarm at a school board meeting.

The charges according to 7 News:

•Scott Ziegler: one count of misdemeanor false publication, one count of misdemeanor prohibited conduct, and one count of misdemeanor penalizing an employee for a court appearance.•Wayde Byard: one count of felony perjury.

ABC 7 News reported:

Loudoun County Public Schools former superintendent Scott Ziegler and the school system’s public information officer Wayde Byard were indicted by a special grand jury following an investigation into two sexual assaults.

A Loudoun County judge ordered Monday that the documents be unsealed, according to a release from Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares. The indictments were handed up by a special grand jury, which was empaneled in April at the request of Miyares.

A true bill was returned against Ziegler on June 14 along with two additional indictments against him on Sept. 28, Miyares’ office said.

The special grand jury also issued a fourth indictment the same day against LCPS public information officer Byard, according to a release.

“Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) is aware of the indictments that the Special Grand Jury issued that were unsealed today. As a result, Mr. Wayde Byard, Public Information Officer, was placed on leave today in accordance with LCPS Policy and Virginia State Code.

While LCPS will await any additional updates from the Special Grand Jury, LCPS plans to address the recommendations of the Special Grand Jury in the School Board’s December 13, 2022 work session. The Board will consider policy-related and process improvements to implement to further ensure the safety and care of all LCPS staff and students and restore trust within our community.”

The father of one of the victims spoke to reporters after the news of the indictments was made public.

“This is just the beginning. This isn’t the end,” the father said.
