Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez displayed her lack of knowledge, weak understanding, and blatant disregard for the American judicial system on Saturday in a series of posts on Twitter.
The outspoken lawmaker shared a series of misinformation in her posts.
She made the error at the start of a series of tweets respondgin to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. She was trying to offer her methods and ideas for how the far-left could enact a change that would thwart future ruling that progressives did not like.
Ocasio-Cortez titled the thread, “Here’s how Dems can + must do more than wait for an election,” as she launched into a diatribe of prescriptive ideals that stated the U.S. Supreme Court required immediate reform.
The congresswoman posted the misinformation, saying, “7 of the 9 justices were appointed by a party that hasn’t won a popular vote more than once in 30 years.”

Her assertion here is entirely inaccurate.
The Supreme Court is currently composed of six conservatives, Justices Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett. The Court curretnly has three liberals Justices, Breyer, Kagan, and Sotomayor.
She didn’t just miss the count; she missed the underlying truths regarding the “popular vote” as well.
Just three of those justices fit her claim. Former President Donald Trump nominated Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Trump did lose the popular vote in 2016 but defeated Hillary Clinton with 304 Electoral College votes over her 227.
However, Alito and Roberts were appointed in 2005 by former President George W. Bush. Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 to Al Gore, but he did not nominate anyone to the Supreme Court in that first term.
Yet, in 2004 he won the popular vote in the Presidential election against John Kerry. During his second term, after winning the popular vote, Bush made his nominations to the bench. The Senate confirmed both Roberts and Alito on a bipartisan basis.
Thomas, who’s been the target of ridicule this week, was appointed in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush, who won the popular vote in 1988.
After making her false claims about the Justices, Ocasio_Cortex went on to offer her prescribed view of a “fix” to the nation’s highest court.
She wrote that the Left should “restrain judicial review,” “open clinics on federal lands,” “expand Fed access/awareness of pill abortions,” and commit to “court expansion.”
