Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana as a monster Category 4 storm Sunday afternoon.

There are reports of 160+ mph winds.

Louisiana residents were told to shelter in place immediately: “Go to an interior room or a small room with no windows and stay put during this time.”

The National Hurricane center put out an alert at 1:00 PM local time: Eye of Extremely Dangerous Category 4 Hurricane Ida Moving Over Southeastern Louisiana. Catastrophic Storm Surge, Extreme Winds, and Flash Flooding in Portions of Louisiana.

Democrat New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Friday said there is not enough time to evacuate the city before Hurricane Ida makes landfall.

“We are not calling for a mandatory evacuation because the time simply is not on our side. We do not want to have people on the road, and therefore in greater danger,” Cantrell said Friday.
