Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an agreement with Mexican state Nuevo Leon’s Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepulveda saying that he will ease inspections of trucks crossing the border between them.

The memorandum promises increased security on the Mexican side of the border to help curb illegal immigration.

The White House blamed enhanced inspections at the Texas border for contributing to supply chain disruptions. Abbott fired back by pointing out that Joe Biden has not visited the border once since he took office 15 months ago.

“Today is a historic day, where two governors are showing how to lead on border issues,” Abbott said during a press conference with Sepulveda in Laredo.

To scale back the stops, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will now return to stopping random trucks on the bridge between Nuevo Leon and Texas effective immediately, according to a report from Fox News.

Abbott said that all of the other Mexican states that border Texas have contacted him for similar agreements, but so far, he has only made a deal with Nuevo Leon.

“Until those agreements are reached with those states, DPS will continue to inspect [trucks] in every state except Nuevo Leon,” Abbott said during the press conference.

Abbott defended the enhanced truck screenings by saying that “the goal all along has been to ensure that people understood the consequences of an open border, and that Texas isn’t going to tolerate it anymore.”

“Today, myself and the governor from Nuevo Leon, we’re doing something the president of the United States could have done long ago, but he does not do it,” Abbott said. “It’s going to be governors leaning away through programs like this to make sure that we will be able to do.”

The day before the press conference, Governor Abbott shipped bus loads of illegal immigrants to Washington, DC.

“They will not come down and see firsthand. If they’re not going to come down to the border, I’m going to take the border to them. We had the first busload arrive today, whether by bus or plane, Washington is going to have to respond to what we’re dealing with,” Abbott said.

All of a sudden Chris Wallace wants to talk about Hunter Biden’s shady overseas business dealings.

Wallace didn’t want to discuss Hunter Biden during the presidential debates in 2020 when Trump brought up the laptop from hell, but now he needs the ratings because CNN+ is in trouble.

The Republican National Committee unanimously voted to withdraw from the Commission on Presidential Debates on Thursday.

GOP presidential candidates have participated in the CPD debates in every election for over 30 years.

Republican presidential hopefuls will now be asked to sign a pledge saying that they will only appear at party-sanctioned primary and general election debates.

The RNC said that the commission is “biased” and vowed to find “newer, better” platforms.

“The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

In January, McDaniel detailed the bias towards Democrats in a letter to the commission.

“The RNC has a duty to ensure that its future presidential nominees have the opportunity to debate their opponents on a level playing field. So long as the CPD appears intent on stonewalling the meaningful reforms necessary to restore its credibility with the Republican Party as a fair and nonpartisan actor, the RNC will take every step to ensure that future Republican presidential nominees are given that opportunity elsewhere,” McDaniel wrote in the letter that she posted to Twitter.

McDaniel added, “Accordingly, the RNC will initiate the process of amending the Rules of the Republican Party at our upcoming Winter Meeting to prohibit future Republican nominees from participating in CPD-sponsored debates.”

As an example, McDaniel noted that the 2020 debates started after early voting had already began in many states.

To fix the problems, McDaniels suggested adopting term limits for the CPD’s board of directors, holding the first debate before the start of any early voting, installing a “code of conduct” to tamper partisan moderators, and asked for a transparent process for selection of the moderators.

“The CPD deals directly with candidates for President and Vice President who qualify for participation in the CPD’s general election debates,” the commission said in a statement obtained by CBS News. “The CPD’s plans for 2024 will be based on fairness, neutrality and a firm commitment to help the American public learn about the candidates and the issues.”

Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein (CA), 88, is in such bad shape that her own Democrat colleagues want her to retire before her term expires at the end of 2024.

In December 2020, The New Yorker, citing people familiar with the matter, Feinstein had been “seriously struggling” and her short-term memory “has grown so poor that she often forgets she has been briefed on a topic, accusing her staff of failing to do so just after they have.”

Feinstein has now significantly declined since the New Yorker’s report and Democrats are worried she cannot fulfill her duties.

According to Democrats who spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle on the condition of anonymity, Feinstein’s cognitive decline is so bad that a lawmaker had to reintroduce themselves to her multiple times during one encounter.

The Chronicle spoke with four US Senators and three former Feinstein staffers about the California Senator’s cognitive decline.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported:

When a California Democrat in Congress recently engaged in an extended conversation with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, they prepared for a rigorous policy discussion like those they’d had with her many times over the last 15 years.

Instead, the lawmaker said, they had to reintroduce themselves to Feinstein multiple times during an interaction that lasted several hours.

Rather than delve into policy, Feinstein, 88, repeated the same small-talk questions, like asking the lawmaker what mattered to voters in their district, they said, with no apparent recognition the two had already had a similar conversation.

The episode was so unnerving that the lawmaker — who spoke to The Chronicle on condition they not be identified because of the sensitivity of the topic — began raising concerns with colleagues to see if some kind of intervention to persuade Feinstein to retire was possible. Feinstein’s term runs through the end of 2024. The conversation occurred several weeks before the death of her husband in February.

“I have worked with her for a long time and long enough to know what she was like just a few years ago: always in command, always in charge, on top of the details, basically couldn’t resist a conversation where she was driving some bill or some idea. All of that is gone,” the lawmaker said. “She was an intellectual and political force not that long ago, and that’s why my encounter with her was so jarring. Because there was just no trace of that.”

Feinstein declined an interview with The Chronicle.

“The last year has been extremely painful and distracting for me, flying back and forth to visit my dying husband who passed just a few weeks ago,” Feinstein told The Chronicle. “But there’s no question I’m still serving and delivering for the people of California, and I’ll put my record up against anyone’s.”

Dianne Feinstein in February announced her husband of more than 40 years, Richard Blum, died of lung cancer at the age of 86.

A Russian warship reportedly caught fire and exploded while guarding the Ukrainian coast on the Black Sea.

Russia’s Moskva flagship missile cruiser incurred heavy damage from an explosion and a “fire” on board late Wednesday and Ukrainian officials are saying they fired missiles at the Russian cruiser.

Odesa Regional Military Administration head Maksym Marchenko said on Telegram that Moskva was hit. “Neptune missiles guarding the Black Sea caused very serious damage to the Russian ship,” he said, according to a translation. Neptune missiles are anti-ship cruise missiles produced in Ukraine.

An unconfirmed video circulating social media claims to show a ship burning in the Black Sea. It’s unclear if the video actually shows the Mosvka as the footage could not be authenticated at this time.

The Russian defense ministry described the incident as a “fire” that broke out and exploded munitions on board, though it didn’t describe the source of the fire. The ship was evacuated and the incident is being investigated.

“A fire onboard the Mosvka missile cruiser caused a blast of the broadside munitions. The ship received serious damage. The crew was evacuated,” the ministry statement said, as reported by Russian state-run news agency TASS.

Moskva is the flagship vessel of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. It has been in service since 1983 and carries Vulkan missile launchers.

Western media continues to report on Russia’s failures in its bloody invasion of Ukraine.  There are mixed reports on the Russian ship’s demise.  Between the US, Russia and Ukraine, it is impossible to know who is reporting the truth.

Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk made his best and final offer to buy Twitter for $43 billion or $54.20 a share, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk purchased a 9.2% passive stake in Twitter.

This made Elon Musk Twitter’s biggest shareholder after purchasing $2.89 billion worth of stock, according to a regulatory filing revealed by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Musk was designated as one of Twitter’s Board of Directors in a deal that would prohibit him from owning more than 14.9% of the media giant’s common stock but he declined the offer.

A group of angry Twitter shareholders on Tuesday sued Elon Musk for waiting too long to disclose his 9.2 percent stake in the company.

Now, Elon Musk offered to buy 100% of Twitter according to his tweet on Thursday.

Musk sent a formal letter to Bret Taylor, chairman of the Twitter board:

I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy.

However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.

As a result, I am offering to buy 100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54% premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38% premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced. My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder. Twitter has extraordinary potential.  I will unlock it.

Twitter’s market valuation is about $37 billion and Musk’s offered to buy Twitter at about $43 billion, according to CNBC.

Bloomberg reported:

The world’s richest person will offer $54.20 per share in cash, valuing Twitter at about $43 billion. The social media company’s shares rose just 5.3% to $48.27 at the market open in New York as investors began to assess how one of the platform’s most outspoken users will succeed in his takeover attempt.

Musk, 50, announced the potential deal in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday, after turning down a potential board seat at the company. The billionaire, who also controls Tesla Inc., first disclosed a stake of about 9% on April 4. Tesla shares fell about 1.8% on the news.

Twitter said that its board would review the proposal and any response would be in the best interests of “all Twitter stockholders.”

The bid is the most high-stakes clash yet between Musk and the social media platform. The executive is one of Twitter’s most-watched firebrands, often tweeting out memes and taunts to @elonmusk’s more than 80 million followers. He has been vociferous about changes he’d like to consider imposing at the social media platform, and the company offered him a seat on the board following the announcement of his $3.35 billion stake.

Last September Speaker Pelosi, Kamala Harris and countless Democrats pushed a media hoax claiming border patrol agents “whipped” Haitians in Del Rio.

Nearly 15,000 illegal aliens, mostly from Haiti, crossed the Rio Grande into Del Rio, Texas last fall.

The Democrats, with help from their stenographers in the media, claimed the federal agents were “whipping” the Haitians.
