Officially opened on June 18th, 1977, and fulfilling orders for shooters, hunters, and outdoorsmen all across the nation ever since, MidwayUSA celebrates 45 years in business. Based in Columbia Missouri, MidwayUSA started out as just another small gunshop in a small 1,600-square-foot building and has grown to become one of the biggest names in the firearms, ammunition, and parts supply industry. MidwayUSA celebrates this 45-year anniversary by extending a heartfelt thank you to its customers.

MidwayUSA Celebrates 45 Years of Successful Business
To all our Valued Customers,
It was high noon on the 18th of June, 1977 when MidwayUSA opened for business. After a 6-year hitch in the Air Force, Larry Potterfield, our founder, turned his lifelong love of guns, hunting and shooting into a career. But it takes a lot more than ‘love of the game’ to be successful. For Larry, it took a loving wife, a supportive family, some intuitive competence, a little business acumen, great Employees, and a bunch of Loyal Customers.
It’s been 45 years now, since Larry and Brenda greeted MidwayUSA’s first Customer in that small 1,600 square foot gun shop in Columbia, MO. A lot has changed since ‘77, but these important things are timeless: Customers come first, Employees are like family, Suppliers are our friends and partners, and we continuously improve everything – always. These days, we’re not able to thank each Customer face-to-face like when MidwayUSA first opened shop, so please accept our personal thanks for helping make MidwayUSA so successful.

MidwayUSA recently announced that their new 400,000 square-foot distribution center was nearing completion and should be operational sometime soon in 2022. This new distribution center should help reduce lead times and provide customers with faster access to the products they want – similar in nature to Amazon and the like – but for guns. Congratulations to everyone at MidwayUSA on 45 years of successful business and in the immortal words of Larry Potterfield – That’s the way it is.
