Physics is an unrelenting mistress, especially when we are discussing terminal ballistics. I am the last guy you want explaining high school physics, but Newton’s laws of motion applies whether you are a target shooter, a hunter, or a soldier. All things being equal more mass traveling at higher velocities will result in a greater transfer of energy. Factoring subsonic velocities into the equation makes transferring that energy even more challenging. B&T USA has stepped into the world of bigger subsonic cartridges with the B&T USA Advanced Precision Rifle in 8.6BLK.

My love for both suppressors and B&T is well documented; quietly launching 200+ grains of lead and/or copper just under the speed of sound is something that every shooter should experience on a recurring basis. Of course I’m talking about subsonic 300BLK. The newer 8.6BLK cartridge is capable of handling 300 grain bullets (like these from Discreet Ballistics). And the B&T APR8.6 boasts a useable range of 400 yards with subsonic ammunition, arguably more than double that of its 300BLK cousin with subsonic ammunition.
I’m excited to see the rise of 8.6BLK and B&T committing to additional precision subsonic rifles. The APR8.6 will be released in limited numbers and will list for somewhere around $7,500.
