At 10:30 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022, defiant youths targeted the headquarters of the clerical regime’s Prisons Organization, located west of the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran. This organization is responsible for torturing, executing, and murdering through mistreatment and deprivation hundreds of thousands of prisoners, especially political prisoners. During this daring act, carried out despite the intense security atmosphere, the entrance to the building was set on fire.

Earlier, in a major five-day campaign that began on May 22, the Security and Counterterrorism Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) had revealed thousands of classified documents related to the regime’s Prisons Organization, including the names of more than 33,000 personnel, heads, interrogators, intelligence agents and executioners along with 22,000 of their pictures. The names of 1,169 members of the central headquarters of this organization were also made public, including the names of 223 heads, officials, intelligence agents, and executioners in the headquarters of the Prisons Organization, and their offices in the four-story building as well as their direct telephone numbers and extensions.

The NCRI’s Security Committee had also released the confidential names of 2,273 political and ideological prisoners, including many prisoners detained during the November 2019 uprising. It had announced that in addition to the Prisons Organization’s 267 prisons, detention centers, and camps, the State Security Force (SSF) and the Intelligence Ministry have more than 300 separate detention centers.

During these revelations, it was announced that according to the statistics of the Prison Office, 5,197 prisoners are on death row, 107 sentenced to amputation, and 51 sentenced to stoning. Sixty of those sentenced to death were under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged offense.

The NCRI Security Committee further exposed the catastrophic and inhuman conditions of the prisons by publishing 100 pictures of prison cells in 23 provinces.

Previously, the Iranian resistance had repeatedly urged the referral of the dossier on the horrific and systematic human rights violations in Iran, especially the regime’s atrocities in its medieval prisons, to the UN Security Council. It had also called for bringing to justice the regime’s leaders, especially Ali Khamenei and Ebrahim Raisi, for four decades of crimes against humanity.
